midcentury modern memories

Hi, I'm Sara Terramano.
I started this blog to collect some of my earliest memories of American culture -- not to valorize that time, but to try to preserve memories of it as it was lived. If you find that you, too, have memories of any of the topics I write about, I'd love to hear from you about that. You can write to me at smmterramano@yahoo.com
I was born smack in the middle of the 1950's. Just on the verge of plastic bottles about to enter supermarkets like fruits on an unstoppable vine, the national highway system about to connect towns and cities with roads you never needed to stop or slow down on, nuclear power plants for almost-magically produced electricity speeding its way into even the most modest of homes, and serious talk of the most incredible thing: sending humans into space.
What was it like before all that happened, before everything came in plastic? There are thousands of answers to that. My memoir will be just one.
